FRIENDSHIP IS ESSENTIAL TO THE SOUL

As stated as the creed of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc, Friendship is a sacred and beautiful thing. Last month, I attended the Nike Championship Coaching Clinic @ my alma mater, Springfield College, Springfield, MA ( Class of 1981) !

My former teammates, classmates and former head coach attended the clinic; I was able to share memories, stories and tales of college days past ! The drive from Norfolk, VA was shared with a great friend and then I was surrounded by friends for the entire weekend ! Time and life is very short ! It was great to have a good time and we all made a pact not to wait another 22 years to get together again!

It made me think about what is your definition of “friendship” ? As I’ve gotten older, I have had all type of friends. Long distance, part-time, short-time, platonic, old-school; new-school, how to we define our friendship ? Are we looking for something in return ? Do we feel that our friends owe us something ? Are we good friends and do we exercise our friendship? Sometimes, do we take our friends for granted?

I believe that sometime we can underestimate the value of friendship; we can assume that friendship is a given, but sometimes we lose friendships because of resentment, anger and fear.

Sometimes, we gain friends because of our loyalty, commitment, passion and strength. The best thing about friendship is that it is ever changing, growing and becoming stronger each day.

Whether it is a teammates, former classmate, family member, parent, coach, teacher, pastor or co-worker, remember that gratitude will always keep your friendships stronger.

KEEP IT REAL AND BECOME A GREAT FRIEND TODAY!
